Freelancing … Types and Fields.

Jun 05,2018

The public usually define things with the most common example, regardless of whether this example matches the fact or even close to it. Thus, the "freelancing" for the public is the work that you can do with your PC screen while relaxing on your bed in the evening, the image that we mentioned refers to the common type of freelancing types, but the concept of freelancing includes other types beside that. Any work you can do independently from a fixed entity that imposes certain frameworks, conditions, and determinants on the job, it can be called "freelancing".  For example, the tutor is practicing such a kind of freelancing works, outside school time, etc.  In this post, although we will highlight the common type of freelancing, which is: "electronic freelancing", but before that, we wanted to indicate that it is not the only kind, and there are other types of "freelancing" works.

Electronic freelancing is the kind of freelancing work that is practiced through the screens of smart devices. It deals with all transactions between the client and the freelancer - all stages of the work are done behind these screens, from the first meeting, to the communication, to the agreeing on the details of the work, delivery of the service required and receiving the payment in return. This type of freelancing is divided into several sections in turn. The direct electronic work or self employment, electronic work associated with an entity, and electronic work that passes through an intermediate platform.

Type I: Direct Electronic Freelancing (or self-employment):

The most liberalized type from the determinants and frameworks, such as: when someone markets for his ability to do a certain service through his accounts on social media or through a "page" in which he offers specific services or products). Then friends or followers send a direct request to benefit from his services, and then he agrees with them to complete the work and receives the payment in return.

This type is characterized as the most liberal types from restrictions. The agreement on all items of work is entirely at the disposal of both parties. This type is also considered the most common one of the three types. You also know from the circle of your relations who offers its services in this way (e.g. through Facebook publications).

The biggest problem in this type is that it requires a huge effort to create a stable customer base and then to achieve a financial stability situation because people usually use these platforms for a various other purposes, so the concentration with this type of interaction is little. The stability of interaction on these platforms requires a wide spread (getting more followers), so the beginnings are always difficult, expensive and slow.

Type 2: Electronic work related to the entity:

This kind of freelancing is the most rigid type of work, because you are usually adhering to fixed conditions and determinants imposed by the employer. An example of this type is to be organized as an editor in an electronic newspaper or magazine without the necessity of being at the workplace. They publish the required vacancy and you apply to the job, And then agreeing on the terms of work, and all these stages are carried out electronically behind the screen. After that you regularly correspond to the production of some articles, for example, and publish them, and then send the agreed amount for each piece sent or for the number of working hours.

And this type is characterized by full-time work, because the freelancer deals with a fixed entity, there is no need to agree with customers and manage the relations with them and concern about the collection of funds from them. Also characterized by stable income, because the entity is fixed and framework of work is clear, Paper income calculations are therefore possible, and their results are accurate.

The problem of this type is the need to commit to the employer's employment, and therefore one of the biggest features of the freelancing is to communicate directly with different clients and to estimate the price of service according to personal vision, not according to a certain imposition

Type III: Working through an Intermediate Platform:

"IndWork" is a direct example of this type of freelancing, where the intermediate platform is a permanent meeting point where business owners and freelancers meet for the purpose of interacting and creating mutually beneficial relationships. The process takes place through the intermediate platform according to the following steps: The user registers in the platform, creates a personal account and sets his job status (Business owner - freelancer). Then he makes a direct search through the platform for a suitable offer (a certain job or a service depending on the status). The intermediate platform shall facilitate the search process on both parties by using the registration data to direct the search process towards the appropriate choices. Then the parties settle on the most appropriate offer, therefore agreed on the completion of the terms of service. And in the end they exchange the service and the payment in return under the supervision of the platform to guarantee the rights of both parties.

This type is characterized by the former two types - overall – that it provides stability and functional guarantees of what is not provided by the first type, and provides flexibility and freedom which is not provided by the second type. Intermediate platform is a place specifically designed to provide an active and stable environment for freelancing work through the Internet, so all the users of the platform are there for that purpose, what makes the work agreements much more focused than the non-specialized platforms. The intermediate platform also provides wide varieties of levels and fields, allowing wider choices for all and creating a healthy competitive environment. It also allows the free of agreeing on the work items between both parties, in a frame of disciplined rules in order to ensure that, each party obtains his rights. The most important role of the intermediary is to directly supervise the financial exchanges through which all users are protected from manipulation or deception.

After declaring all the different types of freelancing, we conclude that the freelancing has not gained this degree of popularity except because it provides a lot of effort, time and money for all parties to complete agreements and share benefits. But the problems of instability and the risk of falling victim to manipulation remain obstacles for freelancers and entrepreneurs. So that the intermediate platforms came with convenient solutions and secure guarantees to open the door to all without fear.
